Filmmaking Journal January 2018: Almost Done Filming and Hacking Procrastination
Awww shit dawg. I’m down to only 5 more days of filming mother trucker.
Sorry, I haven’t taken so long to update what’s going on but I felt I’d be best served by just focusing on making the movie.
But I’ll do it anyway. Helps me document my progress and maybe even help other noobs.
I’m been on a great rhythm recently. I’ve filmed every single week, no matter what. 1 scene a week, sometimes 2.
I’ve found casting people first gives me pressure to schedule and find a location. That’s my way of hacking procrastination.
Otherwise, I’ll hem and haw forever on every little decision and get too precious.
My brother, the lead actor, is ready to be done filming and I’m ready for him to be done so we don’t get into a big argument.
I’m getting a bit more confident about doing all this shite though. I’ve felt uncomfortable doing it with nothing to show besides sketches filmed on my phone, a simple documentary shot mostly on a phone, and a movie I made almost a decade ago that I don’t like.
I need to film the salon scene but having trouble with the lady responding back to me. Why didn’t I just make a movie about a gym, that would’ve been so easy? I just had to make a movie with all kinds of locations, didn’t I?
The actress of my choice might be mad because she wanted a bigger role, but I feel like she’d be better in this role. Maybe I can cast the actress that got cut from another scene because she was good but that scene didn’t work in her role.
I’ve also got some B-Roll left but that shouldn’t be a problem.
An actor kept asking for footage that we filmed back in July so I let him have it under the pretense he wouldn’t share on social media. told an actor not to use footage I gave him. He instantly shared it on social media.
I think I can film all of the house scenes in one day. That’ll knock out a good portion of what’s left.
I also need to figure out how to get extras for an outdoor scene. I need it to look like a cattle call with guitars. Time to brainstorm how to not pay a dozen extras.
Editing is going well. I need to re-edit all I’ve edited with my new found skillzzz. I feel like I could be an editor for hire at this point.
I see scenes from before and know I could do them better now. But every director feels that way. But it’s my 1st year, so I really feel like that compared to when I had zero experience.
Ready to be done though. Want to get all the footage so I can finally see it all put together.
That’s it. Don’t want to put too much thought into this. I’m focused on the actual movie.
Let me know any similar situations you’ve run into, suggestions, or questions you may have, you pieces of shit.
