Post-Production
That’s right, check out the IMDb profile and the movie now says post-production. Feels great, but now that I’m done filming, what am I doing?
I’m still filming for one. Still getting b-roll, and makeup shots. Nothing complicated but still having to fit it into everyone’s schedule is a pain in the ass. But I can see pretty much the entire movie from beginning to end. Crazy.
Social Media. I made an Instagram account linked to a facebook page where I’m posting photos and updates. I’m on day 2 and am already up to 72 likes. The cool thing about casting first-time actors is that they’re more excited and so are their friends so lots of people like the photos and page. Plus all my friends and clients having to hear about me talk about this for a year are ready to finally see all this shit I’ve been going on and on about.
I’ve written out a trailer and have started cutting it. Even though I’d rather focus on the movie, I know I need a trailer. I want to give the basic outline of the movie without giving too much away. I want it to be funny without giving away all the comedy. A delicate balance. I think I can make the trailer funny in its own way that’s different than the way the movie is funny so they live on their own territory, working off each other, not taking from each other. We’ll see.
Trying to get a poster made still. I think I’ll just have to find a professional. I’ve got talented friends but they’re too busy. I know what I want and that’s the biggest part.
After making my first montage, spoiler, I learned that much like Ruffalo’s character says in Begin Again, that anything set to music takes on a more powerful life. I cut the whole movie without music, and now I’m seeing what it looks like with. I would only add if it’s already good without. And not just meaningless music, every piece has a purpose. Not all scouted out ahead of time and written in the script, but nonetheless, music that makes sense and has a purpose.
I’m editing the intro right now. I might need a few extra shots, but I’ll do what I can with what I have. The hardest part of this sequence is selecting which fonts, music, shots, so many options.
I have a video teaching me how to make the credits, but I can also buy a pre-made credit reel for a nominal fee. Might just do that.
Coloring will take place after I’m done editing everything. Right now, pretty much everything just has a filter on it. I’ll get much more in depth after the rough cut is done and I’ve read a few books on the subject.
Now that I’m posting daily photos I have a time bomb situation to have the movie ready. I can only release so many stills until I run out of them or bore the audience.
That’s it for now. If you have any questions you want me to go over next time or if you’ve ever been through a similar situation, let me know in the comments.
